CM Punk made his big return to All Elite Wrestling on Saturday night when he cut a promo to kick off the debut episode of Collision and he also competed in the main event.
Fightful Select reports that some things people took note of included CM Punk removing the AEW mic flag in almost exactly the same way he had done it with a WWE mic in the past. There were said to be people on both sides who said that CM Punk was just getting out what he needed to get out. Others thought it was hypocritical for him to make comments about wrestlers being “soft” when he himself was upset about his program with Adam Page. It was also noted that non-disclosures were applied to CM Punk, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega regarding one another, but that’s not the case with CM Punk and Adam Page.
Another thing that was noticed by the roster was CM Punk claiming that David Zaslav calls him “One Bil Phil.” It was speculated internally that this was in reference to a possible all encompassing broadcast deal with AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery that was rumored to approach one billion dollars.
CM Punk wrestled in the main event when he teamed with FTR to defeat Samoa Joe, Jay White and Juice Robinson. After the match he was checked on by trainers as a precaution.
During his promo CM Punk referred to The Young Bucks as “counterfeit bucks” and people who spoke on the subject noted that The Young Bucks took it lightheartedly.
Punk is planned for Dynamite this week even though his appearance hasn’t been announced. There are also plans for him to face KENTA at Forbidden Door II, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
