All Elite Wrestling was officially unveiled in 2019 and although the company has regularly run televised events it was only recently announced that AEW will be running house shows as well.
Fightful Select reports that several AEW talents said they knew something like this was coming, and one source added that multiple talents had pushed for this. One talent said that they would rather get their in-ring reps working for AEW rather than working outside the company.
Another talent noted that the move will benefit inexperienced talent with the expectation that there will be more creative matchups to help them in their growth process. That same talent spoke highly of reps that talent can get on AEW Dark, but added that they will gain valuable experience working longer matches on the road with more experienced wrestlers.
From a contractual standpoint most AEW talent have a set number of maximum dates on their contracts that AEW rarely comes close to approaching on an annual basis. Talent that spoke on the subject expected the shows to be filmed, but there’s currently no word on a plan to distribute the content.
