Adam Copeland made his big debut with AEW in October of last year the WrestleDream pay-per-view, and on Sunday night he defended the TNT Championship against Malakai Black in a Bared Wire Steel Cage match at Double or Nothing.
The Hall of Famer managed to retain the championship, but unfortunately he suffered an injury in the process. Recently Adam Copeland confirmed that he fractured his tibia during the match and that the injury will require surgery.
PWInsider reports that the internal reaction among AEW staff and talent has been universal sadness and sympathy based on people who spoke about the situation.
AEW will need to make a decision regarding creative plans for the TNT Championship which will have to be vacated. Aside from the creative issues related to the title, it’s being said that Adam Copeland has become a great mentor and sounding board for talents in AEW. The feeling is that there will be a great void while Copeland is absent during his recovery.
