Sunday night No Mercy aired live on the WWE Network and it featured some big matches. The two most talked about matches, for better or worse, were without a doubt Roman Reigns vs. John Cena and Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar.
The Reigns vs. Cena match saw Roman defeat John Cena clean after he hit him with a Superman Punch and a spear, and the Strowman vs. Lesnar match saw Lesnar win clean after he hit Strowman with one F5.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Vince McMahon was very happy with both matches and he got what he wanted out of them. The idea was to give fans two WrestleMania quality matches with four top stars and have them end with clean non-controversial finishes.
Vince McMahon went into the show with a distinct vision for what would happen in the two big matches, and they were all about telling the story of getting to WrestleMania. It’s no big secret that WWE is planning for Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to face off at WrestleMania 34.
Right now the story that’s being told is meant to showcase Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar as the two superior guys in the company with no one else on their level. Brock Lesnar will continue to be booked strong so that a victory for Roman over Lesnar will have more meaning.
