The annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view has come and gone, and both the men’s and the women’s Royal Rumble matches featured some interesting surprises.
The men’s Royal Rumble match featured the return of former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio, and Rey appeared to be in phenomenal shape. After entering the match at number 27, Mysterio made it to the final six before being eliminated.
PWInsider is reporting that Rey Mysterio’s return was put together over the last week, and it was kept secret from most people within the company.
As of right now Rey’s appearance was a one time thing, but given the reaction he received from the fans on Sunday night, it’s possible that WWE will make him some kind of offer.
Rey recently indicated that he’s happy not being signed to a full time contract at the moment, but as we’ve seen WWE officials are much more open to the idea of stars with name value working part time nowadays.
As noted, Rey Mysterio had been in negotiations with Impact Wrestling, and he was reportedly close to working the last set of tapings in Orlando, Florida, but the deal fell through.
