WWE’s deal with Endeavor officially closed last week and the company starting cutting employees a few days later. This week it was talent that got cut as a number of wrestlers were released from their WWE contracts.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the key to the releases were talent who were making main roster money but weren’t being used on the main roster, and the idea was that they weren’t going to be used in the future. One WWE official commented on the cuts and said, “It’s time in vs. how much money you are paid vs. return on investment.”
While most of the talent wasn’t being used Mustafa Ali was involved in a program with Dominik Mysterio. Ali was set to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship at the next NXT premium live event and he was also set to appear on the 9/25 Raw to do an angle with Dominik.
It’s being reported that the decision to release Mustafa Ali came at the last minute. It’s being said that WWE didn’t see Mustafa Ali being used on the main roster, but he was making main roster money.
