Braun Strowman has been one of WWE’s top stars for years now, and in 2020 he cemented his legacy when he defeated Goldberg to become Universal Champion at WrestleMania 36. It seemed that The Monster Among Men would have a consistent presence on WWE programming for years to come, but earlier today WWE announced that Strowman had been released from his contract.
Braun Strowman’s WWE release surprised many fans, but Fightful Select reports that his release was not the most surprising departure among WWE talents close to the situation because of Strowman’s contract.
In 2019 Braun Strowman signed a “monster deal” and it’s being said that he very much knew his worth when he was negotiating the deal with WWE officials. Under the new deal that he signed in 2019 the former Universal Champion was set to stay with the company through 2023.
It’s being reported that Strowman was very private about the deal until it was signed, and that it was worth more than $1 million dollars per year.
Braun Strowman had been with WWE since 2013, and he last competed on TV when he faced off against Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre in a triple threat match for the WWE Title at WrestleMania Backlash.
