There’s been a lot of movement in the world of professional wrestling over the last few years and many people were surprised to see WWE release William Regal in January of 2022. Regal went on to join All Elite Wrestling, but he ultimately parted ways with AEW and returned to WWE in January of 2023.
Regal has been working behind the scenes since returning, but the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that William Regal’s non-compete that is keeping him from appearing on television is almost over. When William Regal parted ways with All Elite Wrestling to return to WWE he said that he wouldn’t be appearing on television.
William Regal was of course at one point the General Manager for NXT which is a role that Shawn Michaels is currently in. With Michaels being a bigger name it’s not clear if WWE would be looking to bring William Regal back as the NXT GM. It’s being reported that Regal hasn’t worked for NXT since making his return to the company. It was also noted that WWE wouldn’t have hired Nick Aldis for the General Manager job on SmackDown if there were plans to put Regal in the role.
It’s possible that William Regal could end up making a cameo on WWE TV at some point, but if WWE ever does end up bringing him back to TV full time in the future it would likely have to be for an authority figure role.
