WWE has been TV-PG for years now, but over the last few months there was talk that the company wanted to make the shift to TV-14. Back in August it was reported by PWInsider that there was indeed smoke to the fire, but ultimately the company decided against the move and WWE will continue to utilize the TV-PG rating for the foreseeable future.
Wrestling fans are known for the creative chants such as the “holy s**t” chant which often has to be edited by the WWE production team. Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast recently noted on Twitter that profane chants such as the “holy s**t” chants were one of the reasons why WWE wanted to make the move to TV-14.
It was reported by Dave Meltzer that one of the reasons why WWE decided against making the shift to TV-14 was because the company didn’t want to upset sponsors such as Mattel.
