Quite a few WWE Superstars were released earlier this week and there were some surprising names on the list such as Dolph Ziggler, Elias, Shelton Benjamin, Mustafa Ali and Matt Riddle.
Fightful Select reports that Matt Riddle was not around backstage in WWE prior to his release. Despite rumors claiming otherwise Matt Riddle was never planned for Monday Night Raw on September 18.
Riddle had been off the road with WWE following an incident where he made allegations about an officer at JFK airport which led to an investigation by Port Authority. Matt Riddle was taken off the road, removed from the September 11 Raw, and he was never planned for a return.
Those who spoke on the subject noted that Matt Riddle was not factored into immediate creative plans. He was said to have been in good spirits before he was released. One WWE higher up said that Matt Riddle had burned through too many chances during his time with WWE.
