Backstage News On Why WWE Didn’t Sign Former World Champion

Last year Triple H took over WWE creative when Vince McMahon retired and in the months that followed the company started signing talent on a regular basis. However, it seems that the signings have slowed down in recent months.

Fightful Select reports that WWE higher ups have reiterated that there’s been a hiring freeze in the company since the beginning of the year. It’s also being reported that former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis was told that WWE maintained interest in him, but due to the corporate moves that were being made the company wasn’t hiring people for the main roster.

A WWE higher up noted that the company is still talking to talent and hope to start hiring people again sooner than later. WWE had contact with EJ Nduka as well as Jay White and Triple H was adamant that he didn’t want details of the talks to leak. In regard to Jay White it’s being said that WWE had heavy interest in him, but there wasn’t a lot of communication between WWE and White in the weeks before he signed with AEW.

WWE was also reportedly interested in Hikuleo, Tama Tonga and bringing Naomi back to the company, but that didn’t end up happening. Multiple free agents have noted that WWE outright responding to them.

One higher up pointed out that there were over 20 main roster signings between August and December and none so far in 2023. The belief is that the lack of signings has more to do with the WWE sale than anything else.
