On Sunday night Roman Reigns successfully defended the Universal Title against Daniel Bryan at Fastlane, but the match set the stage for a triple threat match between Reigns, Bryan and Edge at WrestleMania 37.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Vince McMahon decided to tear up the show, because he wasn’t satisfied and he wanted some changes, and that the Universal Title match was evidently the key match he wanted to change.
It’s being said that a lot of ideas were thrown around, most of which weren’t good, but the best idea was to make the match a triple threat.
There was some speculation that WWE was worried Roman was going to get cheered by the fans and mess up the match, but that’s not the case. The match just wasn’t what Vince McMahon wanted, and the idea moving forward is that the match will feature three really good workers, and that Edge will be a heel.
