On Saturday night the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view aired live from New York and MJF defended his AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe. In the end it was Samoa Joe who ended up winning the match and the belt after he choked MJF out.
Following AEW Worlds End it was reported that MJF is expected to take some time off. It’s not big secret that MJF has been working hurt as he’s been openly stating as much during recent interviews.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Samoa Joe winning the AEW World Championship was always the plan and the company didn’t just give him the belt because MJF is hurt.
“Joe was always gonna (win). Even before Max (MJF) got hurt, Joe was always going to win the title on this show. The title did not change hands because (MJF) is hurt. It was always the plan.”
There’s currently no word on when MJF will be back on TV, but now that Adam Cole has been revealed to be the devil, and Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Wardlow and Roderick Strong have been revealed to be the devil’s henchmen, it’s safe to say he has a feud waiting for him when he returns.
