Backstage News On Why Impact Is Rebranding To TNA

They say that anything can happen in the world of professional wrestling, and on Saturday night it was announced that Impact Wrestling will be rebranding to TNA in 2024.

PWInsider reports that the change had been discussed for some time as it was tentatively set to be announced earlier this year at Slammiversary before it was pushed back to Bound For Glory. The final decision to rebrand Impact Wrestling to TNA was made about 2 to 3 weeks ago.

Sources at Impact noted that the change was made for several reasons. One reason for the change is to unite the fragmented history of the brand which has in the past been known as TNA, Global Force Wrestling and Impact Wrestling. Another factor is that the company’s international partners prefer the TNA name and some have still been using it internally.

The company also reportedly polled long term fans and learned that they prefer the TNA name. Fans who have been chanting “TNA” at events on the road have also been a factor.

Originally there were plans for for the company to revive TNA as a separate TV series a few years ago, but those plans were stalled and then dropped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan is to continue through the rest of the year as Impact Wrestling before the TNA name is revived in January at the Hard to Kill pay-per-view.

Moving forward the TV show will be known as TNA Impact Wrestling, and it’s expected that the old logo will return in January. New championship belts for the title holders have been created while will likely debut in January.

There are no plans to return to the six sided ring as talents who are still with the company who previously worked in the ring noted that the four sided ring was easier on their bodies.
