Last week Edge cut a promo on Monday Night Raw declaring that he would be entering the men’s Royal Rumble match, and he entered the match at number one.
The Hall of Famer went on to win it all when he last eliminated Randy Orton, and now he’s WrestleMania bound.
It had been rumored for some time that WWE wanted to book Edge vs. Randy Orton for WrestleMania 37, but with Edge winning the Royal Rumble it seems that the company has changed plans.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that originally WWE wanted to book Randy Orton vs. Edge in an I Quit match, but Edge was the one who pitched the idea for him to win the Royal Rumble, and maybe winning a championship at WrestleMania.
WWE’s change of direction explains why Edge vs. Orton was booked for Raw this week.
