The landscape on Monday Night Raw changed in a big way this week when Roman Reigns announced that he was vacating the Universal Championship so he could take time off to focus on his battle with leukemia.
The announcement came as a shock to fans all over the world, and it sounds like many people who work for WWE were just as shocked as the fans were.
PWTorch is reporting that almost nobody knew about the leukemia diagnosis before Roman announced it in the middle of the ring.
The other wrestlers, the writers and the announcers were reportedly not aware of the situation and weren’t tipped off before Raw, but there’s a chance a small inner-circle of his closest friends knew.
It’s being said that when Roman made the announcement, everyone just stopped what they were doing backstage.
Reigns is well liked behind the scenes, and because of his work ethic many were surprised when he missed live events over the weekend with no explanation.
When it comes to the battle that Roman is fighting with leukemia, one source noted that, “He seems to feel very confident he’ll beat this.”
