Some of SmackDown’s biggest Superstars were forced to miss this week’s show due to travel issues which prevented them from leaving Saudi Arabia, so WWE was forced to improvise.
Ahead of the show surprises were promised to the fans, and when SmackDown finally aired a full on NXT invasion took place.
NXT is Triple H’s baby, but Dave Meltzer noted on Twitter that while Triple H was a “key driver” in putting together SmackDown this week, it was still “a Vince show.”
Triple H reportedly came up with the main strategy and Vince McMahon approved it.
It’s also worth noting that Vince McMahon re-wrote and re-booked the show after he found out the top SmackDown Superstars would not be available, and NXT Superstars would be part of the show.
