Kenny Omega recently defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 13, and he ended up dropping the belt to Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Omega later confirmed that he is leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The former champion’s contract status moving forward has become a very hot topic, as it was recently reported that WWE made a “fantastic offer” to Omega.
However, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Kenny Omega is expected to sign with AEW. WWE really wanted Omega, but it’s being said that a WWE deal isn’t going to happen.
NJPW officials reportedly found out about Kenny Omega’s departure when he announced his status during an interview with Tokyo Sports, and weren’t happy about it.
New Japan “badly” does not want to lose Kenny Omega. The company recently decided to work with ROH over AEW, but there’s speculation that NJPW may change their stance on working with All Elite Wrestling because they really want to work with Omega.
Nothing regarding Kenny Omega’s future in the wrestling business can be officially announced until February 1st.
