CM Punk is always a hot topic in the world of professional wrestling, but the former AEW World Champion hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since the All Out pay-per-view back in September. Aside from his infamous altercation with The Elite after the show, Punk also suffered an injury during the main event that has kept him out of action.
Dave Meltzer recently addressed CM Punk’s status on Wrestling Observer Radio and he noted that Punk will be available to return in a couple of months.
“They are lacking in that babyface position something fierce. They had a shot with MJF, obviously they did the double-cross on that. And MJF was great as a heel tonight, but they don’t have ‘the guy’.
“Punk’s not gonna be the guy either. I know some people might say, ‘Well Punk’s coming back’… Punk may come back. He will be available to come back if they want to use him in a couple of months. It’s not like it’s so far in the future. And of course if they were to bring Punk back, that opens up a lot of other issues that we can talk about another day.”
Following his altercation with The Elite after All Out it was reported that AEW was in talks to buy out Punk’s contract, but that hasn’t been confirmed. There’s currently no word on whether or not AEW is planning to bring Punk back to TV. Stay tuned for updates.
