Earlier this year Cody Rhodes parted ways with AEW and he made his big return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 where he defeated Seth Rollins in his first match back with the company. In the weeks that followed Cody was being pushed as one of the top stars in the company and he made it clear that winning the WWE Championship was his ultimate goal.
Cody is currently out of action due to a torn pectoral muscle, and he’s expected to be on the sidelines for several months. Fightful Select reports that despite Cody’s big push Vince McMahon had not solidified plans for him to win the WWE Championship or the Universal Championship.
Many assumed that it was going to happen, but it’s being said that Vince McMahon was “all on board” with Roman Reigns becoming a double champion and holding the two top belts.
There were no ideas floated from Vince McMahon that would have indicated he was ready to move on from The Tribal Chief’s reign with both titles over the summer.
