Triple H teased the return of a former WWE Champion for Day 1 Raw this week and he delivered in a big way. The Rock made his return to WWE and teased a match with Roman Reigns when he asked fans if he should sit at the head of the table.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Roman Reigns vs. The Rock appears to be the favorite to main event night 2 of WrestleMania 40. If plans for the match do move forward then that means The Rock will be getting a spot that was originally earmarked for Cody Rhodes. However, nothing is official at this time.
Everyone is tight lipped, but the impression is that The Rock would not have made the comment about eating at the head of the table if there were no plans to build the match.
Another potential option could be for Rock vs. Reigns to take place at Elimination Chamber in Australia as the Australian government specifically requested The Rock for the show. Because of the money the government is paying Saudi Arabia could be an option as well as WWE could potentially negotiate a bonus for having The Rock on the show that would make it the biggest money event in the history of the company. As of this writing WWE has not announced a date for the next Saudi Arabia show.
It’s being said that the main event spot at WrestleMania is something that The Rock could have had any year he wanted it. Although WWE has teased Cody vs. Roman on TV the reality is that Rock vs. Reigns is bigger financially for the company. WrestleMania sponsorship has become a $20 million or more revenue stream and the Roman Reigns vs. Rock match would be far bigger to potential sponsors.
