On Sunday night Randy Orton seemingly suffered an injury during a match with AJ Styles at a WWE live event, and the match had to be stopped.
Orton came out to the ring on crutches the next night on WWE Raw, and he revealed that he was faking the injury then he hit Styles with the RKO.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the injury angle was Paul Heyman’s idea. Heyman reportedly wanted fans to feel like they may see an important storyline if they attend a WWE live event.
Attendance for WWE live events has been down, mostly because fans feel like live events don’t matter, and the company wants to change this perception.
There’s been a feeling that WWE should everything important for TV, but it looks like we could see more angles like this at live events in the future.
