On Sunday night the annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view aired live from ThunderDome at Tropicana Field, and Roman Reigns defended his Universal Championship against Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing match.
The two competitors battled all throughout the venue, and at one point Kevin Owens tried to pick up the win by handcuffing Roman Reigns to a lighting fixture.
Roman Reigns waited for Paul Heyman to open the cuffs using a key, but Heyman had some obvious trouble getting them off, and Roman tried to do what he could to get to his feet, as it became obvious that he would not be beating the 10 count.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the spot was awkward because the keyhole was on the wrong side, and Paul Heyman couldn’t get to it in time.
Eventually Heyman turned the handcuff over and got Roman out.
Roman Reigns successfully defended his Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble, and all signs point to him carrying the belt into WrestleMania 37. You can get more details on WrestleMania plans for Roman Reigns here.
