On Sunday night women main evented WrestleMania for the first time in history, and in the end it was Becky Lynch who walked away with all the gold after she pinned Ronda Rousey.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Ronda Rousey suffered a broken hand during the main event, and that the match was set to be her last for a while because she’s expected to take time off.
At one point the plan was for Ronda Rousey to tap out to Becky Lynch, and a lot of people were said to be for the submission, with a lot of people being in favor of the pinfall finish.
There’s no word on why the finish was changed, but people internally fought against the idea of Ronda losing by submission. It was speculated that Vince McMahon could be protecting Rousey for a potential return.
It was also noted that Rousey was not supposed to have her shoulders up during the finish as plans called for her to be legitimately pinned. Even though the finish could be seen as a set up for a rematch, that’s not currently in the plans.
