This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown is shaping up to be a big one as it will be the go home show for the Royal Rumble premium live event. Ahead of SmackDown this week it was reported that Kevin Patrick has been removed from the blue brand’s commentary team.
PWInsider is now reporting that the current plan is for Michael Cole to call the action on Friday Night SmackDown this week since he’ll be in town for the Royal Rumble. There’s currently no word on who Kevin Patrick’s permanent replacement will be on SmackDown.
It was reported earlier in the week that Michael Cole was originally put with Kevin Patrick on SmackDown because the hope was that Cole could steer him in the right direction. Ultimately Patrick was removed from the SmackDown commentary team because the feeling was that he wasn’t right for the role.
As of this writing there’s currently no word on whether or not Patrick will be taking on a new role with the company. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
