WWE SummerSlam night 1 aired live from MetLife Stadium on Saturday night and the action will continue with night 2 tonight. John Cena is set to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes in a street fight, and the match is expected to be the SummerSlam main event.
Fightful Select is reporting that the result of John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes and the general happenings related to the match are being kept very close to the vest. According to the report there are a number of writers and producers who have not been clued into the direction for the match, and that is by design.
John Cena seemingly turned face on SmackDown last week and he referenced The Rock and Travis Scott’s involvement with his heel turn at Elimination Chamber. It’s being reported that as of Sunday people in WWE had not been informed of any plans regarding a possible Rock appearance at SummerSlam.
SummerSlam night 1 featured some big title changes as CM Punk defeated Gunther to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, then Seth Rollins successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on CM Punk immediately after. During the SummerSlam night 1 post show Triple H teased that the fans “ain’t seen nothing yet,” so it will be interesting to see who walks out with the gold tonight.
