Former WWE stars returning to the company has become a regular occurrence in recent weeks, and on Monday night it was Johnny Gargano who made his big return when he made a surprise appearance on Raw.
Fightful Select reports that Gargano’s appearance on Raw was kept secret and he wasn’t listed on any of the rundown sheets for the show. Many of the talents that were at Raw didn’t know Gargano would be on the show, and much of the production team was not briefed on his appearance. Many people only found out about Johnny Gargano’s return when he walked through the backstage area.
Johnny Gargano’s contract with WWE expired back in December and WWE continued to show interest in re-signing him throughout his time as a free agent. When Triple H came into power Gargano was a name the company thought they had a significantly higher chance of re-signing.
There weren’t said to have been any advanced negotiations between Johnny Gargano and AEW with sources in the company saying they didn’t believe Gargano would end up joining All Elite Wrestling. However, several people were reportedly pushing for him. It’s being said that Impact Wrestling was never a serious consideration for Gargano.
