It’s been a while since fans have seen John Cena on WWE programming, and with WrestleMania quickly approaching fans are wondering how Cena fits into the big event this year.
John Cena was recently referenced by former US Champion R-Truth, and current US Champion Samoa Joe on WWE programming, and the references led to speculation that WWE could be setting Cena up for a US Title shot. However, this week it was announced that Rey Mysterio will be challenging Samoa Joe for the belt on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told John Cena was never scheduled to face Samoa Joe at WrestleMania, and it’s being reported that Cena doesn’t have an opponent for the Show of Shows as of right now.
On Raw this week it was announced that Kurt Angle will face Baron Corbin in his farewell match at Mania, and the announcement was met with a negative response from fans online.
Some fans have expressed an interest in seeing Cena face Angle instead. It’s being reported that Baron Corbin vs. Kurt Angle is still scheduled for WrestleMania, but it’s always possible WWE could change the match due to the negative reaction.
