Sami Zayn has been one of the most talked about wrestlers in the business for months now and last month he took his career to the next level when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber. Despite Sami’s success, it’s been rumored that WWE higher ups don’t see Sami Zayn as a top guy, but it seems as though there’s more to it than that.
A WWE higher up who spoke with Fightful Select around the time of the Elimination Chamber premium live event noted that the company has been ecstatic with Zayn’s performance and crowd reactions.
“He’s headlined a PPV, he is the focal point of our biggest shows. He’s main eventing WWE Raw, and is “1B” for the biggest storyline in the company. Elimination Chamber didn’t happen in his hometown by accident. For anyone to say that we don’t view him as a top guy just hasn’t been watching the program or are fabricating things,” the source said.
It was also noted that WWE had a solid set of plans for Sami Zayn and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, so just because he’s not currently competing for the championship doesn’t mean he’s not viewed at that level. The WWE higher up added that Sami Zayn has been the MVP since last summer.
Internal documents have had Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens set to compete for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles since November. It’s being said that Sami has been easy to deal without throughout his major push, and that he improvised his entire pre-Elimination Chamber promo which worked out better for the company and for Sami himself.
