Paul Heyman recently took on the role of Executive Director of Monday Night Raw a few weeks ago, and this week Goldberg returned.
Goldberg signed a contract and he’s now set to face Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam on Sunday. His match with Ziggler will be his first since he faced off against The Undertaker at Super ShowDown back in May.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Paul Heyman’s plan is to use Goldberg similar to how Bruno Sammartino was used late in his career. It’s being said that as long as Paul Heyman is in charge Goldberg has his place in the “Bruno Sammartino role.”
Meltzer also added that Goldberg can handle the role because WWE has mostly protected him over the last few years.
It was noted last week in the Observer that Heyman is a big believer in the type of character who is “one badass old man who comes back at random times.”
