Money in the Bank is one of WWE’s biggest shows of the year and a few weeks ago the company started airing an interesting commercial to promote the event. The commercial features an intriguing line from Cody Rhodes where he says, “One lucky male and female Superstar will win the chance to main event WrestleMania.”
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the line left a lot of people in the company confused. There were said to be people in creative who had no idea why the line was put in the commercial or why the commercial continued to run with the line in it when it was made clear internally that the Money in the Bank winners won’t be part of title matches at WrestleMania.
The promo that Cody Rhodes cut in the commercial was reportedly written by someone in production and then sent to Vince McMahon for final approval. Vince was the one who added the line about the winners getting title shots at WrestleMania, and nobody has any idea why he wrote it.
There’s speculation that Vince wanted to change the stipulation for Money in the Bank and then changed his mind, or that he wanted to put the line in there because he thought it would sell more tickets.
However, it’s being said that the Money in the Bank winners are not currently factored in to plans for title matches at WrestleMania, and that the stipulation for the Money in the Bank is expected to stay the same as it always has been. There’s also speculation that Vince McMahon may have changed the stipulation without telling anyone, but higher ups in the company don’t believe that to be the case.
