CM Punk kicked off the historic All In pay-per-view on Sunday when he defended his Real AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe, but it was what happened backstage before the match that really got people talking.
Punk was involved in a physical altercation with Jack Perry after Perry was involved in a spot using glass during his match with Hook and he referenced a previous disagreement with CM Punk when he looked at the camera then said, “It’s real glass, cry me a river.”
Following the physical altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry there have been differing reports regarding how it actually went down and who started it.
Haus of Wrestling is now reporting that CM Punk was waiting in the Gorilla position ahead of his match with Samoa Joe when Jack Perry walked up to him. CM Punk then initiated the verbal exchange by asking Jack Perry if he had something to say. The conversation then escalated with Perry asking CM Punk to “do something about it.”
Punk reportedly shoved Perry, then Perry shoved him back and Punk put Perry in a chokehold. According to this side of the story CM Punk used the chokehold to neutralize Perry because Punk didn’t want to have to fight him. It was also noted that no punches were thrown.
After returning to his dressing room CM Punk spoke with AEW security. CM Punk was asked if it would be better for him to leave the building, and although he wasn’t asked to leave he was told it might make things easier for everyone. Punk agreed and left the building then walked to his hotel.
It’s being reported that following the altercation it does not sound like there has been much, if any communication between CM Punk and AEW. It was speculated that CM Punk’s future with the company and pro wrestling in general is now questionable due to everything that is going on.
Stay tuned for updates.
