There was a lot of anticipation heading into All In this year and Swerve Strickland defended his AEW World Championship against Bryan Danielson during the main event. Ahead of the match Bryan announced that he would never wrestle again if Swerve managed to defeat him, but in the end Bryan picked up the victory and won the AEW World Championship for the first time in his career.
Fightful Select reports that Bryan Danielson had often and actively pushed against the idea of him winning championships in All Elite Wrestling. Obviously Bryan eventually gave in and it’s being said that Tony Khan was adamant that Bryan Danielson should win the AEW World Championship. Tony Khan specifically Bryan’s championship celebration to be the closing moment of the AEW All In pay-per-view.
It was noted that the decision to have Danielson vs. Swerve main event All In was made by at least April. Despite speculation Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay was never planned for All In. One source added that Ospreay will have the chance to main event Wembley for years to come.
It’s also being said that there were backstage jokes about a “reverse Montreal screwjob” to ensure that Bryan Danielson won the main event at All In.
