Sunday night WrestleMania 34 aired live on the WWE Network, and Roman Reigns wrestled in the main event for the fourth year in a row when he challenged Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
Many fans thought it was a foregone conclusion that Roman Reigns would be walking out of WrestleMania with the Universal Title, but The Beast defeated The Big Dog after he hit him with the F5 a total of six times.
Dana White recently said “Brock Lesnar’s coming back” when asked about a potential UFC return for Lesnar, and it was reported that a deal is being finalized. Although it’s important to note that White didn’t say when Lesnar would be returning.
With Brock’s WWE deal expiring, all signs seemed to point to Lesnar losing the title on Sunday, but instead Brock picked up a shocking victory.
As far as plans for the Universal Title go, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer recently speculated on Wrestling Observer Radio that Lesnar’s title reign may not last much longer.
“I suppose tomorrow on Raw, Lashley could show up and beat Brock for the title and that’s his swan song,” Alvarez said.
“A lot of things can happen. Roman can beat him tomorrow. Roman can beat him in a week. Roman can beat him at the next pay-per-view. There’s a lot of different ways they can go,” Meltzer replied.
It’s been rumored for quite some time that Lashley is WWE bound, and there’s no better time for him to return than on the Raw after WrestleMania.
If Brock Lesnar is leaving for UFC, then he will need to drop the belt to someone, or if he’s sticking around for a little while longer, he’s going to need someone to feud with, and Lashley seems like the perfect star to step up right now.
Kris Zellner of the Between The Sheets podcast (via CageSideSeats) also notes that there’s talk of Brock vs. Lashley for the belt at SummerSlam.
So, it looks like there are a lot of different ways WWE could go, but it seems that the only thing that’s for sure when it comes to Brock Lesnar right now is that nothing is for sure.
A little birdie told me months ago that Brock vs. Lashley was going to main event Summerslam for the Universal Title…….just chew on that…..
