Andrade is the current WWE United States Champion, and he shocked the world when he defeated Rey Mysterio to win the belt at a Madison Square Garden live event.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Andrade’s title win wasn’t a change of plans.
Andrade was planned to win the title and feud with Humberto Carillo. That’s why he lost twice to Carillo, as the plan was to get Carillo into the US Title chase.
But plans changed a few weeks ago due to the NXT angle with AJ Styles, and Carillo lost steam along the way, so WWE went with Rey Mysterio instead.
The idea was to have Rey Mysterio lose the belt to set up Andrade defending against a baby face on their way up, and the move Mysterio into the program with Owens & Samoa Joe against Seth Rollins & AOP.
