After weeks of hype John Cena made his long awaited return to Monday Night Raw this week to celebrate his 20th anniversary with WWE. A number of recognizable names sent in video messages praising John Cena, and fans were very surprised to see that Raw featured video messages from current AEW stars Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Paul Wight.
Fightful Select reports that the situation was very straightforward. AEW President Tony Khan was contacted after the idea was pitched, and he was said to be ok with the idea so he provided approval.
A WWE source noted that the company was able to land virtually everyone they wanted for the video. Fans were certainly surprised to see Bryan, Jericho and Wight on Raw, but Jericho did previously appear on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions on Peacock, so the companies have proved in the past that they can work together under the right circumstances.
However, it was also noted in the report that instances like this have been few and far between since All Elite Wrestling launched in 2019. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
