Recently there’s been a lot of talk about backstage drama in AEW and there have also been some departures as well. It was recently reported that Bobby Fish’s AEW contract expired last month and he is now done with the company.
Fightful Select reports that AEW and Bobby Fish had entered discussions about renewing his deal and there was said to have been interest on both sides. However, Fish parted ways with AEW after the two sides couldn’t come to terms financially.
It’s being said that AEW thought Bobby Fish’s departure was amicable until he started posting tweets criticizing CM Punk’s in-ring work. There wasn’t much in the way of creative plans for Fish after Kyle O’Reilly got injured, but he remains friendly with many in the company.
There’s been no word on WWE reaching out to Fish, and he hasn’t been mentioned creatively. There were said to have been issues between Bobby Fish and CM Punk, but those issues had no bearing on AEW not renewing Fish’s contract. Fish apparently told many that he didn’t appreciate CM Punk’s attitude after they faced off in a match in October of 2021.
