Cody Rhodes recently asked for his release and on Sunday WWE confirmed that his request had been granted. Cody has parted was with the company but apparently the split was not amicable. Cody released a statement expressing his frustration with the creative team and he made it clear that he had been actively pitching ideas for him to drop the Stardust character.
Stardust had been seemingly teasing the return of Cody Rhodes on social media and Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the plan was for Cody to drop the Stardust gimmick around WrestleMania 32. Apparently Vince McMahon ultimately decided that Cody Rhodes would continue working as Stardust and the plans were dropped.
It was also noted that WWE isn’t going to make it easy for Cody Rhodes to wrestle for another company. Although WWE released Cody he’s still being held to his contract.
In the statement that Cody Rhodes released he teased that he might find out he has a knack for TV and movies, but he closed the statement by saying that he wants to be a wrestler.
“As far as the future is concerned though, I’m a wrestler.” Cody wrote. “So that’s what I’ll do…wrestle.”
