Chris Jericho is the Aotoylla of Rock n Rolla and he has made that fact very evident by touring with his band Fozzy while they make a big name for themselves in the rock world. But it’s only been a few weeks since we saw Chris Jericho pop up on WWE television.
Jericho surprised us all when he showed up on SmackDown Live after Battleground and inserted himself into the United States Title picture once again. He participated in a triple threat match against AJ Styles and Kevin Owens and the match was amazing. Chris took the pinfall allowing AJ Styles to reclaim the US Title he had lost in controversial fashion two nights previously.
Some people were wondering what this meant for Jericho and why he came back for this kind of seemingly one-off appearance without much fanfare or recourse. Chris Jericho revealed on a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho that his latest appearance on SmackDown Live was actually a spur of the moment kind of thing.
Apparently, Jericho just came into Richmond, VA, in order to tape an interview with Breezango for Talk Is Jericho and film some footage for Southpaw Regional Wrestling.
Y2J said when he got to the building he was talked into making a surprise appearance on the show and participate in the triple threat main event match.
The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted this was a means for AJ Styles to get his US Title back because he was never meant to lose it at the pay-per-view. It is now reportedly a widely held belief Styles wasn’t supposed to drop the title to KO at Battleground in the first place.
Therefore, Jericho was apparently talked into appearing on the show as a last-minute deal. It’s a good thing Chris had his wrestling gear with him when he showed up. But a veteran like Jericho always comes prepared.
