Cody Rhodes has been a key figure in All Elite Wrestling ever since the inception of the company, but it was revealed earlier this week that he’s done with AEW, and it’s been reported that Cody is expected to return to WWE.
Fightful Select reports that although there were disagreements between Cody and AEW the split was at least amicable. There were positive stories about things Rhodes had done for the roster, such as setting up a bar at Daily’s Place, but others had said that his tumultuous relationships had been a detriment over the last few years.
There were people throughout the process who believed that the contract situation with AEW and Cody Rhodes was a work, but that sentiment changed over the weekend. Fightful reportedly spoke to dozens of talents and staff members, and it was noted that there was still some skepticism regarding the situation with Cody. However, the belief among the majority of people they spoke to was that Tony Khan would not work his own talent.
It was said to be “business as usual,” at this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite with one talent saying that the situation was a reminder that this is pro wrestling and life goes on. People who spoke with Fightful noted that nothing was out of the ordinary, and that it’s not expected that WWE will try to ignore or erase the existence of Cody Rhodes.
The prevailing belief in WWE is that Cody Rhodes fell out of power in AEW and wanted a significant raise, but that hasn’t been confirmed by AEW or Cody. There is excitement and shock among WWE talent, and several top stars are reportedly ready to welcome Cody back to WWE with open arms. One top name said that it was the most interesting thing in the company in a long time, and that it will be great for fans. Another name pointed out that people who have previously worked with Cody are excited about the idea of his return.
Cody’s deal has not been confirmed yet, and no members of the WWE roster have heard that a deal has been signed just yet. Stay tuned for updates.
