Backstage Details On WWE Making Big Changes To NXT, Adam Cole’s Status

WWE releases have become a regular occurrence in 2021, and it was reported on Friday that WWE released a dozen talents from NXT including former NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the recent releases in NXT are part of a change in philosophy for the brand. It’s also being reported that Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis were the ones behind the releases, and that Triple H and Shawn Michaels were not the people behind the cuts.

With NXT losing the Wednesday Night Wars the idea is to go back to focusing on bigger guys, and younger guys. It’s being said that there are divisive opinions on wrestling when it comes to key people in WWE, and all of them are fighting for Vince McMahon’s ear.

The exact wording for the changes is “no more midgets, no one starting in their 30s.” The company wants people who can be box office attractions.

Adam Cole is said to be an exception as he recently met with Vince McMahon at SmackDown to discuss his status. Cole’s contract will reportedly expire later this month and the writers have been told to write main roster storylines for the former NXT Champion.
