On Saturday night Bianca Belair walked to the ring expecting to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks at SummerSlam, but that’s not what happened. It was announced that Sasha Banks would not be competing, and that Carmella would be her replacement.
Becky Lynch then made her surprise return, threw Carmella out of the ring, and challenged Belair to a title match on the spot, which Becky won.
Fightful Select reports that Sasha Banks getting pulled was not part of a storyline as The Boss was not cleared to compete. It’s being said that the company is hopeful that Banks will be back soon.
It was also noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE knew 8 days ago that Banks likely would not be competing at the pay-per-view. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
