Last weekend the annual WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view aired live from Allegiant Stadium, and the show featured some interesting surprises. Originally Bianca Belair was set to defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against Sasha Banks, but when it was announced that Banks was unable to compete Carmella took her place.
Becky Lynch then made her surprise return, threw Carmella out of the ring, and challenged Bianca Belair to a SmackDown Women’s Title match which she won in 26 seconds.
Fightful Select reports that even though Becky Lynch’s return was somewhat expected for SummerSlam people in WWE kept it very quiet. It’s being said that Bianca Belair and Carmella were told of Lynch’s return ahead of time but the return was kept a secret backstage and Lynch’s name was not listed on the internal run sheets.
It’s also being reported that WWE had to add segments to SummerSlam to fill the time that was originally planned for the Banks vs. Belair match.
