On Sunday night the annual WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view aired live on the WWE Network, and Randy Orton challenged Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship in the main event.
When it was all said and done it was Randy Orton who picked up the victory to win his 14th world title. Orton has been feuding with McIntyre for months and throughout the course of their feud McIntyre has been able to pick up some big wins over The Viper.
Fightful Select reports that the timing of Randy Orton’s title win confused some people backstage in WWE, because he had been protected from WrestleMania 36 through SummerSlam, but then ended up losing repeatedly during his feud with McIntyre.
One way or another it’s expected that Randy Orton will have a lengthy reign with the belt, as the company reportedly has big plans for the WWE Title match at WrestleMania 37. You can get more on that here.
