Last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite got a lot of people talking thanks to the debut of Sting, and shortly after Sting debuted it was revealed that the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion had signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling.
Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated is reporting that there are plans for Sting to eventually enter the ring in AEW. However, Sting will not be wrestling on a weekly basis, as the company plans to leverage his star power.
It was noted that the possibility exists for Sting to do cinematic matches, tag matches, and “carefully designed spots” that will help him shine, and help the people he works with become bigger stars.
Sources close to AEW say that Sting was thoroughly impressed with the company’s professionalism, long term planning, and compensation.
Tony Khan made the deal in secret, and later revealed to his four Executive Vice Presidents, and a handful of other people in the company, that he had signed Sting.
It’s also being said that Sting’s debut was not thrown together, as it was part of a carefully mapped out storyline set to include Darby Allin, Cody Rhodes as well as Brian Cage, Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs.
Tony Khan was also adamant that Tony Schiavone say “It’s Stiiiiiiing!” as Sting made his debut.
As noted, Sting is set to speak on this week’s episode of Dynamite. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
