WrestleMania 37 took place over two nights this weekend from Raymond James Stadium, and Randy Orton vs. The Fiend was the match that officially kicked off Night 2.

Orton vs. The Fiend was quite the presentation, but when it was all said and done it was Randy Orton who picked up the victory after Alexa Bliss distracted The Fiend.

It seemed that momentum was on The Fiend’s side, but as he was about to hit Sister Abigail flames shot out of the ring and Alexa Bliss popped out of a large jack in the box at ringside with black liquid pouring over her face. Orton then hit the RKO for the win, and The Fiend stared at Alexa Bliss until the lights went out and they both disappeared.

Fightful Select reports that as of last Friday the original plan was for The Fiend to defeat Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37.

People involved with the storyline were not told how the angle was supposed to end, other than it was supposed to write Randy Orton off TV. There’s currently no word on what WWE has planned for The Fiend and Alexa Bliss moving forward, or if Randy Orton will still be taking time off.

The finish of the match was changed over the weekend with Orton becoming the winner. The surprise finish was reportedly pitched over the weekend with Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard being instrumental in the decision making.
