This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown featured a fatal four way match in the main event with a shot at the Intercontinental Championship on the line. Santos Escobar, Rey Mysterio, Madcap Moss and Karrion Kross battled for the shot and it was Madcap Moss who picked up the win. After the show was over Santos Escobar found Rey Mysterio in the locker room and he delivered an important message to the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Escobar told Rey that ever since he was a kid his dad told him Rey Mysterio was going to do big things in this business, so he wanted to take Rey’s legacy and make it his. He continued to say that he can only accept and respect that Rey Mysterio is all about lucha. Santos Escobar then said that in honor of his dad he must present Rey with the ultimate sign of respect and handed him his mask before adding that this doesn’t mean he doesn’t want Rey’s legacy, but he respects what he is.
Rey responded by saying he cherishes that story in his heart and the mask is sacred and special. Mysterio then presented one of his masks to Santos Escobar and told him he hopes it will let him create his own legacy. They then hugged and Escobar left the locker room.
Santos Escobar and Legado del Fantasma were called up to the WWE main roster in October of 2022 and they’ve been heels for the entirety of their run on the blue brand so far, but it seems that Escobar may be working as a face moving forward.
