Back in January the women of WWE made history when they competed in the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match. The match featured some of the biggest names in the history of women’s wrestling, but there was only room for one winner, and the winner of the match was Asuka.
Fans waited for weeks to find out who Asuka would be challenging at WrestleMania 34 until finally she declared that she wanted a shot at Charlotte Flair’s SmackDown Women’s Championship.
The SmackDown Women’s Championship match was the second match on the card, and Charlotte made her way to the ring first followed by Asuka.
Asuka has been undefeated ever since she won the NXT Women’s Championship in April of 2016, and she put her streak on the line for the chance to become a champion on Sunday night.
There’s no denying that both women put on a great match, but it ended when Charlotte Flair put Asuka in the Figure 8 and Asuka tapped out to win the match.
Asuka’s streak is now over.
Ironically enough, the last time WrestleMania was in New Orleans, Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s streak.
After the match, Charlotte celebrated in the ring, and Asuka grabbed a mic. Asuka said that Charlotte was ready for her, and she congratulated the champion then they hugged.
