A few weeks ago Daniel Bryan shocked the world when he turned heel and defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE Championship on SmackDown Live.
Bryan went on to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, and since then he’s been working hard to make fans hate him.
For years Daniel Bryan has been WWE’s ultimate babyface, and it was recently reported that the heel turn was something he actually pushed for. It was also reported that the decision to have AJ Styles drop the title to Bryan was made by Vince McMahon only a few days before it happened.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that AJ Styles vs. The Miz for the WWE Title is still being advertised for WWE events in January, which is another sign that plans were changed late in the game.
Daniel Bryan is still being advertised to work as a babyface in matches against Samoa Joe and Randy Orton.
Bryan’s heel turn seemed to have come out of nowhere, but he’s been getting some major heat as of late, so it looks like it’s working at the moment.
AJ Styles will get his chance to win the title back when he challenges Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at TLC on Sunday.
