When the SmackDown Tag Team Titles were introduced a few weeks ago, a tournament was also announced to determine the first champions. American Alpha seemed like the favorites to win the titles, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen at Backlash.
American Alpha faced off against The Usos Tuesday night on SmackDown Live, and Gable and Jordan managed to defeat The Usos. After the match The Usos attacked American Alpha, and according to WWE, they will no longer be competing in the tournament.
Shane McMahon announced on Talking Smack that Chad Gable suffered a storyline injury due to the attack from The Usos. McMahon noted that Gable’s MCL is injured, and he’ll be out of action for two to four weeks.
Sunday at Backlash The Usos will face off against The Hype Bros. to determine who will go on to the finals to face the team of Heath Slater and Rhyno.
It was teased that there was tension between The Usos and American Alpha at SummerSlam after The Usos stole the pin from Chad Gable and won the match for their team. Last night on SmackDown The Usos took things to the next level when they carried out a vicious attack on Jason Jordan and Chad Gable. You can check out a clip below.
Heath Slater has been on a roll these past few weeks, and he’s currently the hottest free agent in sports entertainment. If Heath Slater wins the tournament, not only will he be one half of the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions, he will also officially become a member of the SmackDown Live roster.
Slater reacted to his recent success on SmackDown Fallout and you can check out a clip below.
